Le Sel D'Issey Eau de Parfum

Male 2025 Le Sel d’Issey
Le Sel D'Issey Eau de Parfum Le Sel D'Issey Eau de Parfum (2025) is an intense woody-marine fragrance by Quentin Bisch. It blends a salt accord with seaweed and ginger to capture the sea's vitality. The heart features smoky incense, bridging the gap between the ocean and the earth. Grounded by cedarwood and amber, this scent offers exceptional longevity and a refined masculine trail. The vegan, 94% natural formula is refillable, making it a versatile, contemporary choice for a fresh aquatic experience.
Le Sel D'Issey Eau de Parfum offers impressive longevity, typically lasting between six to eight hours on the skin. While the initial projection is noticeable, it settles into a more intimate, sophisticated sillage that remains persistent throughout the day. Compared to the original EDT, this version provides a denser and more consistent performance. It transitions smoothly from a salty opening to a warm, woody base, making it a versatile choice for both professional environments and evening wear across various seasons.
Launched in 2024 as an Eau de Toilette and followed by the Eau de Parfum in 2025, Le Sel d'Issey was the final project requested by Issey Miyake before his passing. Developed by perfumer Quentin Bisch, the fragrance serves as a major aquatic sequel to the iconic 1992 L'Eau d'Issey. It explores the "imagination of salt," a substance that is scentless in nature but holds deep sacred and purifying significance in Japanese culture. The scent was designed to capture the transition between sea and earth, utilizing sustainable ingredients like laminaria seaweed and upcycled oakwood. Its unique bottle, crafted by long-time collaborator Tokujin Yoshioka, features an oval glass design that reflects light to evoke the energy of salt. The fragrance debuted with a special exhibition at Tokyo's 21_21 Design Sight, emphasizing Miyake's lifelong commitment to simple, essential design that brings joy and surprise.
KEY ADVANTAGES
  • - Enhanced depth and sophistication with the addition of a smoky incense heart note
  • - Superior longevity and projection compared to the original Eau de Toilette version
  • - Smooth and refined dry down featuring a warm, resinous amber and cedarwood base
  • - Versatile masculine profile that transitions easily from daily wear to evening occasions
  • - Eco-conscious design with a refillable bottle and 94% naturally derived ingredients
POTENTIAL DRAWBACKS
  • - Polarizing scent profile that may be off-putting or even nauseating to those who dislike strong oceanic and mineral notes
  • - Lack of mass appeal due to a complete absence of sweetness, vanilla, or traditional "crowd-pleasing" citrus elements
  • - Linear development that some users find boring or lacking in significant complexity and evolution
  • - Sillage is relatively moderate and sits close to the skin after the first few hours, which may not satisfy those seeking massive projection
  • - Can be perceived as synthetic or cloying by some, leading to a "love it or hate it" reputation that makes it risky for blind buying
