Alto Astral
Unisex 2025
Alto Astral Alto Astral by Byredo is a radiant 2025 unisex release inspired by the joyful spirit of Brazil. Created by Jerome Epinette, it opens with refreshing coconut water and bright aldehydes. This solar introduction captures optimism, transitioning into a heart of jasmine and incense.
The scent settles into a warm base of sandalwood and salted amber, offering impressive longevity. This versatile gourmand-woody composition provides a sophisticated sillage suitable for year-round wear. It leaves a sensual, uplifting trail that evokes tropical warmth and positive energy.
Alto Astral exhibits impressive longevity, especially for a woody aromatic scent, frequently lasting over ten hours on the skin and even longer when applied to clothing. While it is not an overwhelming projector, it maintains a strong, consistent presence throughout the day.
The sillage is sophisticated and well-balanced, providing an inviting aura that remains noticeable without being cloying. This makes it an excellent, versatile choice for professional environments or casual daily wear, ensuring a persistent trail of positive energy.
Launched in 2025, Alto Astral was developed by master perfumer Jérôme Epinette as a vibrant tribute to the emotional landscape of Brazil. The name is derived from a Brazilian Portuguese phrase representing an elevated state of mind and spiritual brightness. Epinette sought to capture the country’s unique optimism and cultural vitality, drawing inspiration from everyday moments like samba at dusk and the salty rush of ocean winds.
The fragrance campaign was shot on location in Rio de Janeiro by photographer Rafael Moura. It emphasizes a sensory portrait of collective exuberance through intimate visual acts of dance, beach life, and street culture. By blending creamy coconut water with industrial aldehydes and warm solar notes, Byredo aims to unify nature and culture, marking a luminous new chapter in the brand's olfactory narrative that celebrates joy as a state of being.
KEY ADVANTAGES
- - Features an addictive and photorealistic coconut water note that provides a fresh, tropical, and instantly uplifting opening.
- - Offers exceptional longevity with a high-quality base of sandalwood and salted amber that remains perceptible on the skin for over 24 hours.
- - Delivers a sophisticated "skin scent" dry-down that avoids typical sunscreen clichés by incorporating smoky incense and milky musks.
- - Exhibits a versatile woody-aromatic profile that transitions seamlessly from a bright summer fragrance to a cozy, warm scent for cooler months.
- - Captures a unique "solar" energy inspired by Brazilian culture, blending vibrant aldehydes with creamy textures for a radiant and positive olfactory experience.
POTENTIAL DRAWBACKS
- - Polarizing opening featuring sharp, salty, and metallic aldehydes that some users find off-putting or chemical.
- - Unpredictable scent progression with distinct stages that can feel disjointed or contradictory to different noses.
- - Performance issues on certain skin types, with reports of the fragrance becoming a faint skin scent very quickly.
- - Divisive nuances in the dry down that some reviewers describe as smelling like sour coconut water, savory cheese crackers, or even turpentine.
- - High price point of approximately $235 USD, which many consumers find difficult to justify for a relatively linear or "forgettable" scent profile.
